I do a lot of hiking with my mate and looking for a new hiking tent that is durable and of good quality. Needs to be able to pack down to nothing and be as light as air. Thank you

My wife and I are going to go hiking at the New Jersey shore during hurricane Irene. How many umbrellas should I bring? Do I need a tent if we camp? Will my dog be safe?

I would like to know where some good tent camping spots are in CA. I’m thinking maybe long beach or san diego. I’ve never been to CA but want to find some nice camping near the airport. I’m only 22 so it’s a fortune to rent a car. I like primitive camping and hiking but if there’s some good regular campsites that’s cool too. Please help me!!!

We’re a group of probably around ten people or less looking for a tent camping site near a lake and hiking. We’re trying to find somewhere that won’t be too strict on curfew and noise levels. (We plan on drinking… a lot.) The closer to southern California, the better.

I live in Ohio so i would prefer states around my area within a 10 hour drive.
I want a campground that includes:
- tents, not cabins
- hiking (mountains or very hilly)
- river or lake
- warm area
- fishing
i want a place where you’re away from technology, where you’re only surrounded by nature.
and i would prefer having my campground not so close to other campers.

So, For now, The trip is supposed to start from Maine (W.Mountains N.P) Or MA (Around Eisner Camp, Barkshires), NY (Albany, Catskills) and NJ (Bear Mt. S.P, N.Y.C) then a plane to FL and back to NY, and I need to know a few things:
Where should I go (Nature and Urban)?
Where can I sleep (Camping, Motels)?
How to travel cheap (transportaion)? Bus? Train? Airplane?
How to go to FL and back? Airplanes are expansive (220$)?
How to eat cheap and vegatarian food (not from the garbage)?
anything special I should take with me? (maybe for the National Parks)
How much does things usually cost in the US? (Tent, BackPacks, Shoes, Clothes Etc.)
Thanks Everyone!

I recently researched the tarp tent below:
http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=47
It is airy and easy to sent up like a tarp, has a bug mesh and a reliable floor. It doesn’t require tent poles but can be set up with hiking poles and sleeps two. It is extremely light and packs very small.
I think this is the best shelter out on the market for two people, but it’s expensive. Other manufacturers that make similar products (GoLite, Black Diamond) are either more expensive or not as good with fewer features.
Are there any other tarp tent manufacturers out there with better prices? I’m not interesting in anything that requires more than a hiking pole or two to set up or anything without a floor/bug net. Thanks.
I like that MSR, the overhang in particular. I looked at the specs and the pdf, couldn’t tell if it came with netting or not.
As to making my own stuff, thanks for the compliment dude, but trust me, I don’t have near the skills or patience for that kind of work. I’ve read of guys doing that, pretty amazing. For me, the instructions could be in crayon and I still wouldn’t get it.

I am looking for a nice, rural tent camping site to go to with my dog. Does anyone know of any nice place, preferably near a beach that isn’t a campground? I don’t want to be camping with 500 other people. I would like it even more if there was some hiking to the campsite. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
I have actually been to north manitou island a number of times and that’s exactly the kind of camping i’m looking for! Just closer to the Grand Rapids area. Thanks!

I normally go camping with my daughter, family and friends at a place called Lodgepole off of I-80 in N.Cali. It’s a PG&E owned campsite and an awesome place. The sites are clean, people are friendly and the camphost goes around several times daily to clean the outhouses. I love the area ( Tahoe National Forest.) There is a stream that goes thru the site and a lake that is walking distance. We enjoy fishing, hiking and swimming. I’m looking for a new place to try that is about 2 hours from the East Bay. If anyone out there has a favorite spot I’d love to hear about it.

Me and a friend are planning on thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail next year (2,100+ miles). We’re poor! We need all the gear necessary (tent, backpacks, boots, stove, etc), funds for planes to the trail and back home…. How on earth can we get sponsorship for such an adventure? Is it possible to get all the gear donated to us? We plan on blogging/vlogging the entire thing so maybe the companies would do it for the promotion?
