We’re going to the New River Gorge in West Virginia for whitewater rafting and would like to know where the best place for tent camping is and what is a "Do Not Miss" sight/to do while we’re there? We will not be hiking in as I have my 11 year old going with us. Many thanks to you for helping us.

Next week, I’m going on my first hiking/campout trip on the Sipsey River Trail in Alabama. I will last from a Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. I’m looking for tips on what all to take. Here is what I have so far:

    Light tent
    sleeping pad
    sleeping bag
    hiking backpack with hydration bladder
    compass
portable cooking pan/pot plate and silverware (like boy scouts use)

As for meals – what is recommended? I have seen these "just add boiling water" meals in the bag that are about at walmart. I have had one before at a campout and it was tasty. Is that fine for dinners? How about breakfast and lunch – cook over a fire or just eat granola bars or something like that?

As for clothing, what is normal to wear? Jeans, shorts, etc…? Thermal underwear? How many pairs of socks – and are they special socks or just normal socks?

As for water, do you just take a lot of water bottles or do you use some sort of filtration setup and use river/creek water?

Any more tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!

i recently got a response to this question from >friendshipband@sbcglobal.net<
"here is what he/she wrote: Because of that sin or curse it was a curse on Joshua’s war !!! Because of those idolatrous items preserved by Achan a war was lost !!! God had His own war against idol worship with these former slaves and gave them a severe lesson to remember forever !!!
A principle to remember is one rotten apple in a barrel will rot the whole bunch there in the barrel !!!
So it is best to have it totally removed !!!" end quotes

although this may explain why Achan should be stoned, it does not explain why his children must suffer for it, especially since in Deuteronomy it says the complete opposite. neither does the bible point to the sons and daughters or cattle as accomplices. so the response has totally missed the point of the question. any RATIONAL christians out there, please give a BIBLE BASED response that ADDRESSES the issue and does not change the subject.

is any Christian out there able to give a reasonable explanation for this?
(taken from the New International Version of the Bible)

Deuteronomy 24:16- "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin."

Joshua 7: 19-25- Then Joshua said to Achan, "My son, give glory to the LORD, the God of Israel, and give him the praise. Tell me what you have done; do not hide it from me."

Achan replied, "It is true! I have sinned against the LORD, the God of Israel. This is what I have done: When I saw in the plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, with the silver underneath."

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath. They took the things from the tent, brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and spread them out before the LORD.

24 Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. Joshua said, "Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today."
Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them

      **************************************…
in Deuteronomy, it states that a son will not be held accountable for his father’s sins, and vice versa. each person will be punished for their OWN sins.

but in Joshua, roughly 26 pages later, it tells a story of a man named Achan who was one of God’s chosen people from Israel, who keeps some things from a nation they were conquering (God said to devote everything to destruction and to keep nothing) when they find out, not only do they stone him to death, but they also take his sons, daughters, and all his cattle and stone them as well, and then burn them. this was an acceptable punishment to God, as shown if you read the context before and after. so basically, his children and cattle have to pay for HIS sin. (i thought the cattle getting stoned was even more unusual) the more you compare the texts the more obvious the contradiction.

they are BOTH in the old testament and not even too far away from each other. can any Christians explain this rationally using the bible?

      Gen 18:1-2
1 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.
2 Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.

At first, this verses seems to be a valid reference to the trinity. There seems to be a connection between The LORD and the three men, the men representing the appearance of God.

However, as the story unfolds, the real nature of the men is revealed. As the men are about to leave for Sodom, one of them stays behind with Abraham, as read in verse 22:
22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.
Masoretic Text; an ancient Hebrew scribal tradition, "but the LORD remained standing before Abraham."

Up to this point in the story, we have the following scenario: Three men came to visit, two of them left for Sodom, and one remains with Abraham. Abraham goes on to request mercy from the man that stayed behind. Verse 19:1 goes on reveal the true nature of the men:

1 The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.

In this verse, 34 verses after Gen 18:1, the real nature of the men revealed. The men were angels. God appeared to Abraham through three angels. The concept of God appearing or talking to people through angels is not a rarity in the Old Testament. It happens in quite a different number of places.

To conclude, it is obvious that the three men in 18:1 were angels, leaving behind any possibility that the men who appeared to Abraham were the three persons of the trinity.

How can Gen 18:1&2 prove the trinity ?

        God has palms:

And it has to occur that while my glory is passing by I must place you in a hole in the rock, and I must put my palm over you as a screen until I have passed by. 23 After that I must take my palm away, and you will indeed see my back. But my face may not be seen

God has feet, which Abraham offered to wash:

        Genesis 18: 1

"Afterward Jehovah appeared to him among the big trees of Mam´re, while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent about the heat of the day"

This clearly says that God appeared to him, therefore it is God who appeared to him….

"When he raised his eyes, then he looked and there three men were standing some distance from him. When he caught sight of them he began running to meet them from the entrance of the tent and proceeded to bow down to the earth"

If these are men are merely angels, then why does Abraham bow down infornt of them

        isn’t this angel worship?

        18:3-5

Then he said: “Jehovah, if, now, I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass by your servant. 4 Let a little water be taken, please, and YOU must have YOUR feet washed. Then recline under the tree. 5 And let me get a piece of bread, and refresh YOUR hearts. Following that, YOU can pass on, because that is why YOU have passed this way to YOUR servant.” At this they said: “All right. You may do just as you have spoken

if he is not offering to do this to Jehovah, then he is blaspheming and calling mere angels Jehovah, why is he not rebuked for this?

i see we dont have a problem with Jehovah turnnig himself into a man or 3 of them as it may seem to speak to Abraham

however we get an extreme reactino on the possibility of God turning himself into a man called Jesus

        which is more impossible

God turning himself into a man to speak to Abraham
or God turnnig himself into a man whose name is Yeshua:

Jesus= I cause salvation to become

        1. ok lets try to focus on Abraham why does he call those men Jehovah, this is blasphemy

        2. God told moses he has fingers and palms

3.Abraham offers to wash God’s feet, and feed him, he calls angels Jehovah and is not rebuked

        why??????
