A recent program on the History channel describes seven prophesies made by various religious and nonreligious persons. Many of them describe natural disasters which may strike us here on earth.
Large meteors which will indeed hit earth,
a supernova which delivers gamma rays towards earth blocking out the sun,
giant calderas (like Yellowstone national park) erupting sending us into a new ice age.
Despite these predictions, why havent people become more interested in moving towards places which may shelter them from harm (ie mountanous areas). Survival is a dangerous thing for a large metropolis.
Personally, I would want my family to survive any natural/man made disaster. But i live in a large metropolis, it would be unheard of to ask my wife to move for these reasons. But, if not prepared, you will surely die in this situation.
How long will your food supply last?…
What will you do to get food to feed your family? Steal?..Kill?
What steps have you taken to prepare for 1-2 years survival?
What survival equipment do you have? (tents? sleeping bags? clothing for cold climates?)
I am interested to see what all of you have done to prepare for a natural/manmade disaster. And how long you would expect to live on what food you have in your pantry…
(Refrigerated/frozen foods will not count)…

I currently live with my boyfriend and everyday he comes home with some new "gadget" that he just bought. We live in an apartment and there is no room for anymore of this crap.
He buys excess sports equipment (3 pairs of skis, 2 bikes, weights, 2 tents, 4 sleeping bags, 20 pairs of hiking/running shoes)
ANd, on top of everything else, he’s a packrat and he keeps old crap (his old hockey equipment, his ski jackets from the 90′s, hundreds of shirts and tops from the 90′s that he has not worn in decades)
I want to live in a nice open space place but all of the corners are taken up with extra large tupperware boxes containing his junk. He won’t even throw away old magazines.
I’m getting so sick, and I have to come home to 2 bikes in the livingroom and I’m so sick of living like this.
I already talked to him and he just insists he will not part with any of his precious crap.
I just need to get him to listen and see the insanity but he won’t listen.
Ok here’s the scoop…
I want to get into hiking and camping with my wife. I currently have no gear. What should I buy? I have about 0 to work with. I am planning on camping through 3 seasons, spring, summer, and fall (a little in the winter perhaps). I am going to need a two person tent, his and hers sleeping bags, and his and hers backpacks. I am looking for gear that would take me on 2-4 day hikes. Should go with internal or external backpacks. What’s the difference? Is there a good rain resistant tent within my price range? I’m thinking I would want a mummy type sleeping bag. Again, not sure though. Brand names with reasons for purchasing would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Im camping in a 2 man tent tomorrow night and theres 3 of us. We’ll be sleeping in sleeping bags and it’s supposed to be very hot.
How can I stay cool?
Thanks
