I do a lot of hiking with my mate and looking for a new hiking tent that is durable and of good quality. Needs to be able to pack down to nothing and be as light as air. Thank you
My wife and I are going to go hiking at the New Jersey shore during hurricane Irene. How many umbrellas should I bring? Do I need a tent if we camp? Will my dog be safe?

So, For now, The trip is supposed to start from Maine (W.Mountains N.P) Or MA (Around Eisner Camp, Barkshires), NY (Albany, Catskills) and NJ (Bear Mt. S.P, N.Y.C) then a plane to FL and back to NY, and I need to know a few things:
Where should I go (Nature and Urban)?
Where can I sleep (Camping, Motels)?
How to travel cheap (transportaion)? Bus? Train? Airplane?
How to go to FL and back? Airplanes are expansive (220$)?
How to eat cheap and vegatarian food (not from the garbage)?
anything special I should take with me? (maybe for the National Parks)
How much does things usually cost in the US? (Tent, BackPacks, Shoes, Clothes Etc.)
Thanks Everyone!

Picture it:
-Eighteen 14-16 year olds hiking for 9 days
-No tents-sleeping under plastic
-No toilets, no showers
-3 changes of clothes for the whole time
-Vegeterian meals
-Have to get up at 4am, finish hiking at 8pm
-No music/phones/pens and even books!
I am going to die. I haven’t even slept in a tent before!

Me and a friend are planning on thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail next year (2,100+ miles). We’re poor! We need all the gear necessary (tent, backpacks, boots, stove, etc), funds for planes to the trail and back home…. How on earth can we get sponsorship for such an adventure? Is it possible to get all the gear donated to us? We plan on blogging/vlogging the entire thing so maybe the companies would do it for the promotion?

The Peak is 2.65 miles high, and I’ve not done much hiking in my life. In summer, when conditions are good (i.e. not snowing, etc.,) could I do this? If I hiked up, are there services (like a cab) who could take me back down? Also, I’m age 25 with no health issues. Should I camp in a tent, or could I easily hike up and down in a day? Any advice about hiking Pike’s Peak is appreciated!

For example, you’ve been hiking all week, and you see some poor soul outside that has only managed to erect the inside of his tent before a freak storm hit in an almighty downpour.
Thinking about it makes me laugh hard, but why do we sometimes laugh at other peoples misfortunes like this?

I’m taking a three day trip with two friends. We’ll be going through West Virginia and Pennsylvania. We plan to sleep in a tent but I was thinking we could just pull off the road and stick a bag in the window, hike into the woods about 20 feet and set up a tent. Any ideas? I really wish I could just pitch a tent at rest areas but I’m sure that’s illegal. Looking for free sleep. No reason we should have to pay just to sleep.

I’m doing something called ‘Operation Escape’ with Scouts, where we go hiking alone in Cleveland for three days and try to avoid being ‘captured’ by the leaders. It’ll just be me and my boyfriend hiking and camping together, so I’m worried that we might forget something.
We’ve got a sleeping bag, tent, first aid kit, food, torch and a stove ect.
Is there anything else I might need?

Hi all, I am looking for some brands of hiking/camping gear that are not wallet busting but still extremely dependable for solo or 2-person hiking and camping. Specifically I am looking for a large light-weight back pack, and an easy-set-up tent that packs easily in a backpack. Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your hiking in the woods- miles away from civiazation; -you have a tent, food, water and some medic supplies. Like, a few large/small bandages, one wrap and neosporin.(However you spell that..)
Your dog falls off a rock and breaks his hind leg and gets a large gash in his middle. What would you do?
I’m trying to see what kind of medical supplies I would need if I went hiking with my dog and to see what to do in worst case’.

I’m looking for something within 50 miles of Toronto. Anything simple is fine. I just need to be able to rent a cabin or a tent for a night. Also, if hiking is available, it’d be great…I’m just not sure if Ontario has mountains. Googling topographic maps of Ontario didn’t turn up with great results.
